* Sometimes it can be hard to find the heartbeat - don't panic (!) - this happened a few times to me and both children were absolutely fine. I just waited half an hour and tried again - and there it was. Apparently it can be just that baby is lying in a funny position and the heartbeat isn't easily found
* If using this fairly early on, make sure your bladder is full before trying it!
* Finding the heartbeat earlier on - it is surprisingly low down - far lower down than perhaps you would imagine
* Do ask advice or reassurance from doc or midwife if you can't find the heartbeat and are worried - they don't mind and are so used to doing it themselves - they can usually reassure you very quickly.
